What a great last day we had here in Yellowknife. It started about 7am this morning when we woke and it now looks like it will end around midnight.
We had an appointment with Yellowknife Storage at 9am to pay her and to select our spot for the Edge. After that we went for a quick breakfast, filled up the tank and headed to Cameron Falls, about 50kms east of Yellowknife. What an amazing adventure we had heading up there.
Stopped at the Outdoor Heritage Mining Museum to have a look around at some old mining equipment, our stay fell a little short as the weather turned a little nasty with freezing rain.
The freezing rain was short lived and the sun poked out from under the clouds but the temperature was a brisk +5'C. On our way up to Cameron Falls we stopped off at numerous lakes to take pictures of the fall colours. We were both very surprised by the beauty of the area.
Arrived at Cameron Falls about an hour later, a trip that should of took only 1/2 an hour but with the picture taking, winding roads and construction it pushed the time back. It was about 1/2 hour hike up hill to the falls but we did not mind as Cameron Falls did not disappoint. The first thing you see are the falls and then you realize that you can carry on your hike to the beginning. There is a large bridge that spans the river prior to the falls and the views from there were spectacular.
We left Cameron Falls to head back to Yellowknife to visit Old Town. It is kinda weird as you come across very new and large homes in Old Town along side some of the original structures. Of course the new homes did not interest me as much as the old ones. We then took a visit to Pilot's Monument where we got a 360' view of downtown Yellowknife, boat houses and the marina. We went through Ndilo, Yellowknife's Dene First Nation Territory before heading back to the hotel.
Our flight leaves tomorrow at 12:30pm so we will get to the airport about 2 hours earlier to get the dogs settled for the flight to our new home in Cambridge Bay.
