Things I Miss

Besides the obvious of missing Craig and the rest of the pack there are certain things that I miss when away from home.  One is my bed, there is nothing like sleeping in your own bed with your husband, a couple of German Shorthaired Pointers and a Labrador Retriever somewhere in the mix.  It will be great to see them all again tomorrow and I am thinking that Blitz is missing his 'sisters' and his cat Mocha.

I do miss going to work and the people that I work with, crazy as that may sound it is never a dull moment at Kitikmeot Foods.  I will enjoy hearing the stories of what happened while I was away.  Good thing about going back to work mid-May is that we will not be producing anything during the month of June so I will be alone at the plant playing catch-up.

I miss the village of Cambridge Bay and the friends that I have made there.  Now don't get me wrong I miss my family and friends in Manitoba but the ones I have made in the North do have a place in my heart as well.

Now I could turn the table and tell you a couple of things that I truly miss (beside family & friends) when I am in the North.  The big one for me would be trees, I love the look of a big ole tree, the smell of the leaves after a rain, the sound they make in the wind and the shade it provides on a hot summer day.

Gardening, getting my hands dirty (hardly ever wore gloves) and watching the new growth of a springtime flower.  The smell of a freshly cut lawn....oh how I love that smell.  I did help my mom around her house a bit and yes I got a little dirt under my finger nails and oh my did it feel good.

All in all, Blitz and I had a nice relaxing vacation and I am glad that everyone got the chance to see the real goofball that he is.  I think he made everyone laugh at one point.  We want to say thank you to everyone that played hostess and host to us, you have no idea how much that means to me.

My next posting will likely be tomorrow after we get settled in.

Final Day in Carman

Today is our last full day at my mom's (aka Granny) and we have been busy taking her to Winkler and Winnipeg for some shopping and helping her out around the yard.  Blitz stayed in his kennel at Granny's all day on Tuesday while mom and I headed to Winnipeg to meet Craig's mom and dad and two other couples for lunch.  We went to Le Garage on Provencher and I would highly recommend going there for some eats.  I had the pickerel wrap with homemade fries, very yummy.

I have been taking Blitz to our favorite spot to run in Carman just about everyday but yesterday he decided to go out for his own run.  He was doing so good at my mom's off leash until yesterday when a robin caught his eye and off he went, across the highway and into the University of Manitoba agriculture yard.  He totally knew he was a bad boy when he came ripping around the corner of a building and saw me.  He lowered his head and came to me very slowly and that was before I even said anything to him.  Mom lives very close to the highway and Blitz was very lucky no vehicle was coming by when he decided to head across. My heart was sure pounding but I tried very hard not to panic.   I was always taught to never punish a dog when he comes to you and I think my face and body language said it all to him.  So now he is grounded at Granny's house, on a leash every time he goes outside.

Today is laundry day and I 'found' a connection in town by the Laundromat so I could do an entry.  After laundry is done mom and I will meet Angie for lunch and then do some separating and transplanting of some of mom's hostas that have got out of control.  I really miss yard work so I am more than willing to get my hands dirty.  I am sure that Blitz will get a run in some time today but will wait until after dinner as the temperatures are suppose to reach 26'c...I melt every time I think about it.  It is weird how your body adapts to climate.  I used to tease Craig when he come down from the north when I lived in Manitoba as he used to think that it was hot at 15'c and now I know how he feels.  Don't get me wrong I am lovin' the temps and I think Blitz and I will have a bit of shock when he arrive back in CamBay on Sunday.

Pictures of today are of Blitz (of course).

Friends

This weekend was spent with friends, both two legged and four legged.  Friday after leaving Lac du Bonnet my first stop was a much needed haircut, THANK YOU MIKE!  From there Blitz and I headed to the off leash park for a good run and playing ball.  Lost one ball right away in a gopher hole, that's one reason why I carry two.  After a good run we headed to our friends Sandy, Keith and Lexie's home, our place to hang our hats for the weekend.  We were on a right schedule this day as Blitz had an appointment at 5pm to donate blood for the third time and a dinner date with friends at 6pm at one of my favorite restaurants in town.  Needless to say we were a tiny bit late for dinner but once there dinner was great.  It was pleasure to finally meet Aleeza and I am glad that her and Les found the time to fit us into their schedule.  It was the first time that Sandy and Keith ate with chop sticks and by the time they were finished they were old pros at it.

Yesterday Blitz spent the day with Keith and Lexie while Sandy and I meet Trish in Selkirk for a girls day of shopping, lunch and just hanging out...my favorite thing to do with these two.  We headed over to Trish and Rod's home in East Selkirk to hang and look at all of Trish's plants and trees that are starting to come up and to see their crew of a dog and 3 cats.  One thing I really miss up north is having a large yard and gardens so I get my fill when I visit.  I am bringing up some geraniums and a couple more house plants for some much needed colour in my northern home.  On our way back home we picked up chicken for dinner and once we settled in Keith told me what a big ole baby Blitz was as his mommy was not there, poor baby boy.  haha

Today I head back to my mom's for the week and return here on Friday as I leave Manitoba on Saturday.  Until then...

Blitz's Final Day in Lac du Bonnet

Today is the final in Lac du Bonnet and when we woke up this morning I thought it would be spent inside as it was raining.  Lucky for us the skies opened in the afternoon and it was another nice day here.  Blitz and I did the usual, he first headed straight into the water, then I had to play ball with him in the field so that he was dry enough to come inside.  While we were coming inside something caught his eye...SQUIRREL!  Not just one but two and boy did he give them a run for their money.  Blitz never did catch one but the whole neighbourhood knew that he had two squirrels up a tree.

Dad helped me with our barge order.  It is emailed and already confirmed that they got it - now all I have to do is wait until the Passage opens up to get it.  I love getting the barge order as it is like Christmas in the summer.  This is my first time doing it alone so I hope I didn't miss anything or screwed up things, only time will tell.

This evening we were invited to Bonnie and John's for a fine feast of salmon and veggies.  We stuck around for a couple of hours; talked and laughed, what a great couple.  Tonight I will look at some of mom & dad's pictures of their trip, hit the hay early as tomorrow I leave here in the morning.  Why in the morning you ask....I get a HAIRCUT!  Long overdue so I will get my money worth. ha ha  From there I need to do a bit of shopping, take Blitz for a run, be at the Canadian Animal Blood Bank at 5pm for him to donate and then it's off to dinner with friends at 6pm.

We will be staying at Sandy and Keith's this weekend, home of another girlfriend of Blitz's.  Should be a lot of fun or should I say interesting with the two of them.  On Sunday I head to my mom's in Carman to spend the week with her and my friend Angie.  Angie just became a grandma, 4th time around, so maybe I will get to see little Bentley.

Not sure when I will have another blog entry as mom does not have the Internet but Craig's dad helped me get my IPad connected so I might be able to work something out.

Talk soon!

It's raining and mom won't let me outside
Maybe I will just sit up here on the stairs
Or lay here by the door
Yay clear skies
Did I tell you I love the water?

Hmmm wonder what's up the tree
Here's your answer
Thanks Mom & Dad we had a great time here!

Great Day at Nana & Papa's

What a couple of relaxing days we had here in Lac du Bonnet, just what the doctor ordered.  I am feeling better today with not so much coughing and I think my voice is finally coming back.

Blitz and I spend a few hours outside playing and taking pictures.  He was such a good boy while I put him in a sit/stay beside some cattails but as soon as a couple of ducks flew into the water beside him he dove right in.  Well that was the end of picture taking for a while as I completely lost control of him.  He was just so happy to be swimming again I just let him have some fun.  When he had enough, (if that's even possible) I took him to the field across the road to run and get dried.  He had much hunting to do and he just ran for the hell of it.

After he was kinda dried we headed back inside so that I could get the roast in the oven as we were having the neighbours, Bonnie and John over for dinner.  Once I got everything prepared for dinner we headed outside again and to Blitz's surprise Emma was outside also.  They haven't seen each other for about a year and they were so happy to play with each other again.  Blitz chased Emma and then Emma chased Blitz, well she tried as she is 5 years older than the boy.  Needless to say Blitz is very tired this evening and as I always say, "A tired dog is a happy dog" and Blitz is one happy dog tonight.

We had a great visit with Bonnie and John this evening and it is always nice to sit down with them to get caught up.  Talked to Craig and everyone back home is doing good.  Kinda missing him and the girls, that is until he tells me the temperature. ha ha

Tomorrow Mom and Dad will head to Winnipeg for an appointment and Blitz and I will stay put and who knows what we will do.  I love these kind of holidays where they are no real plans, you just wake up and do whatever comes to you.

Talk soon!
